Alumni story: Erin Supinka, Journalism, '14
Erin Supinka, a 2014 graduate of the School of Communication (BS-Journalism), started at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. in September of that year as a Social Media Manager. She is now the Assistant Director of Digital Engagement in the Office of Communication where she manages the university’s social channels and looks at how its audiences interact with Dartmouth in the digital world.
Overall she recalls her time in the School of Communication and at RIT fondly. She appreciated the great flexibility she had in her degree program to explore classes in in completely unrelated fields, she wishes she had taken more classes in computer science and has realized since leaving RIT that “you don’t really ever stop learning.”
Her advice to current students is to take classes across multiple disciplines, “get close with your professors” and use them as a resource. She encourages students to take any opportunity to shadow professionals in fields they are interested in and she would welcome any SoC students shadowing her (Erin’s contact information is below).
The interview was conducted on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Dartmouth by Mike Johansson, Senior Lecturer in the School of Communication.
