Alumni story: Jackie Bergin, Advertising and Public Relations, '16
Jackie Bergin is a 2016 graduate of RIT’s School of Communication with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations. She is now an Associate Engagement Manager at Carrot Creative (a VICE company) in Brooklyn, N.Y. which means she works on digital content strategy and social media community management for some of Carrot’s clients.
Jackie describes her time at RIT as “the best four years of my life,” but recalls being scared at first because RIT was a “big school.” She says she quickly came to feel like the School of Communication “felt like home” because “I felt comfortable with all my professors because it was such a small, tight community.”
She feels strongly that students need to do all the internships they can. She completed multiple internships while at RIT – including several unpaid internships – and she says without that diverse experience she would not have the job she currently has or even been able to decide that agency work was what she wanted to do.
The interview with Jackie Bergin was conducted at Carrot Creative in Brooklyn on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, by Mike Johansson, Senior Lecturer in the School of Communication.
